A New Liturgy is our attempt to create holy space wherever we find ourselves. A moveable, sonic sanctuary. Released quarterly, each Liturgy is a 25 minute journey of music, prayer, scripture, and space that helps open us to The Almighty in any location, season, community, or emotion. I really need this.
Created by Aaron Niequist and a few friends in his little basement studio, this project has grown into an exciting collaboration with a handful of gifted musicians and artists. And we are passionate about exploring deeper and more diverse ways to honestly engage with God and each other.

For the last ten years, first at Mars Hill Church and now at Willow Creek Church, Aaron has been trying to invite people into a worship journey that moves beyond singing songs. Singing is a wonderful practice, but only one piece of what it can look like to worship God in spirit and truth. However, as Aaron tried to create something "new", he discovered that many have had this figured out for generations and generations. They call it "The Liturgy".
And so Aaron has been wrestling with the question: How do we bring the depth and wisdom of the Liturgical tradition into the questions and struggles of today? What can we learn? How can our past shape and launch us into the future? Since the word liturgy means "the work of the people", how do we best invite our spiritual communities into this work?

After spending the better part of a decade as a touring musician, he is now married to his high school sweetheart, Anna, with their second son on the way. When not playing drums, Ben works at Judson University working on computers and teaching percussion and loving every minute of it.
Recording engineer, mixing engineer, creative voice.
Aaron has been producing and recording music for over 15 years - blessed to work with many talented artists and learn from every project. Capturing emotion and space through sound is a fascinating and challenging art form, and Aaron loves the ability of recorded music to emerse the audience in a totally foreign environment simply through listening and imagining. Helping fellow artists realize the full potential of their creative spark is what keeps him motivated and pursuing this passion.
